Choose a home inkjet by the documents you actually print and scan. Automatic two-sided printing does not imply automatic two-sided scanning. This revision compares the exact models already named here against manufacturer records, correcting the previous 9025e tray description. We have not tested print quality, speed, setup, ink consumption or reliability.

Exact-model document handling

Model Documented paper/input distinction Scanning decision Ownership check
HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e Two 250-sheet input trays; 35-sheet ADF Automatic two-sided printing and scanning documented Exact consumables, support and any chosen HP+ conditions
HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e 250-sheet input; 35-sheet ADF Automatic duplex printing; dual-pass two-sided ADF documented Do not transfer 9025e’s two-tray capacity
Canon PIXMA TR8620a Front/rear paper paths; auto duplex printing Manufacturer lists manual two-sided scan ADF presence is not automatic duplex scanning
Epson EcoTank ET-4850 Refillable tank model; 250-sheet tray Its ADF specification explicitly says automatic duplex scanning is not supported Match ink bottles and current driver/support needs
Brother MFC-J497DW 100-sheet tray and auto duplex printing Manufacturer lists no duplex scanning; auto duplex printing is a separate function Discontinued model on Brother’s exact product page; not a current-model default

Which job changes the choice?

  • Frequent two-sided document scanning: verify automatic duplex scan, the permitted original sizes and software destination. Canon’s manual workflow and ET-4850’s simplex ADF do not meet an automatic-duplex requirement.
  • Frequent printing with occasional scans: compare total consumable cost and realistic document volume; a tank is not automatically cheaper at low use.
  • Existing MFC-J497DW owner: current support and consumables may matter more than replacing it because of a listicle. A new buyer must account for its discontinued status, actual condition and support rather than assume current stock.
  • Occasional documents/photos: match media paths and required format before relying on a nominal speed or all-in-one label.

Cost from actual quotes

Download the ownership-cost record (CSV) . Record device, compatible ink/bottle SKU, delivered quote, declared yield and test basis, workload, paper, maintenance and optional subscription separately. Do not add subscription charges to cartridge charges for the same pages or compare incompatible yield standards as if they were measured home use.

Hypothetical arithmetic: a $30 black cartridge with a declared 600-page yield gives $0.05 per declared-yield page. At 1,200 such pages, two cartridges would be $60 under that assumption. This is not any named printer’s measured cost: color cartridges, cleaning consumption, coverage, paper, device price and service are excluded. An actual mixed-color calculation needs every consumable’s applicable assumptions, not the price of one black cartridge.

HP’s 9025e reference describes optional HP+ account/internet/original-ink conditions and subscription terms. Read the current offer and selected enrollment terms; an old “free months” promotion does not prove today’s entitlement or future price. Do not invent savings from a subscription or refill system.

Current-offer limits

The existing exact-name Amazon searches and site attribution are retained, with the legacy Brother status made explicit. We have not independently confirmed today’s stock, delivered prices or every seller’s model identity. Match the complete model, condition, included consumables and regional support before purchase. Do not infer a model’s discontinuation merely because one source is sold out.

Use printer versus copier for device classes and service terms. Resin 3D printing is a different production task and does not answer this office-document decision.
